The Soltesz Leonardtown office was selected to provide surveying and engineering services for the Patuxent Park Revitalization Project – Phase 5 for St. Mary’s County in Maryland. The proposed section is approximately 5,500 feet (1.04 mile) in total roadway length and will consist of the reconstruction of roads within Patuxent Park, which primarily consist of roads west of Saratoga Drive. Stormwater management retrofit of existing untreated impervious area where possible is included in the Soltesz design to help St. Mary’s County achieve its Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) goals. Leonardtown used its road design expertise to expand into the public sector.

Prince George's County is well on its way to meeting the goal for improving the quality of stormwater management practices and Soltesz is honored to be the engineer delivering those acres. Twenty-four sites and 108 Best Management Practices (BMP) have been certified to treat 354 impervious acres! Rain gardens, sand filters, bioswales, and bioretention facilities are just some of the stormwater BMPs installed at these sites. These recently completed installations will treat, manage and reduce stormwater runoff from roofs, parking lots and other impervious surfaces, which will reduce the amount of stormwater pollution that enters into the Chesapeake Bay. Soltesz held its Annual Toys for Tots Holiday Luncheon on December 7, 2016. Soltesz makes it a priority to give back to the community. Jim Soltesz attended the Committee for Montgomery's Annual Legislative Breakfast on December 15, 2016. Elected officials, government and business representatives, and community leaders throughout Montgomery County and the State of Maryland were in attendance at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. This year's program featured a discussion with Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, the presumptive next mayor of the City of Baltimore, Catherine Pugh, who is currently state senator, and Senator-Elect Chris Van Hollen. This is widely recognized as the unofficial kick-off to the General Assembly session.

Soltesz was honored to host the 2017 Holiday Art Contest at Loiederman Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland. Soltesz supports the community and the arts through our annual holiday art competition at the school in memory of Mario A. Loiederman. The sixth graders at Loiederman Middle School drew beautiful and unique pieces of art depicting scenes of "peace." Our first place winner this year is Tiani Holman for her portrayal of peace.Congratulations to Tiani Holman!

Together Soltesz is making an impact on some of the most important issues facing our communities. We donated $4,000 in total to Three Oaks Center, Angel's Watch Regional Shelter, Community Ministry of Prince George's County, and The Dwelling Place this quarter. The money we have contributed is saving lives and bringing hope to people in need. In preparation of the upcoming colder weather, and most importantly to give a great big thank you to our employees, Soltesz happily handed out winter coats to our staff. Each employee was presented with a personalized gift bag that contained a very comfortable, soft and warm weatherproof down coat! It’s a small token of our appreciation. The session featured one of the nation’s most renowned experts in stormwater management, Neil Weinstein, President of Low Impact Development, a nationally known non-profit company.Soltesz’s staff was lectured on the newest innovations in water quality in this rapidly expanding industry. Topics included a review of the current national, state, and local government regulations, the most current technology, applications of BMPs in urban settings and mixed use projects, effective nutrient removal techniques, and many other innovations.Soltesz is the leading practitioner in the region on stormwater management and water quality. Soltesz secured a major project with PEPCO recently. As part of our commitment to PEPCO, we are providing Civil Design and Surveying services for the installation of two new underground 230kV transmission feeders from Harvard Substation #13 to Champlain Substation #25. These upgrades will enhance reliability for customers in Ward 1 in the District of Columbia.Construction on this 1.3 mile endeavor started in October and is set to be completed in September 2017. Roxana Roman is leading this effort, along with Tom Chicca and Patrick Fitgerald. Congratulations to the team who worked hard to make this happen!
