University of Maryland Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center

The Challenge

Soltesz provided civil engineering services for the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center project and related roadway and infrastructure improvements. The site is a 24-acre parcel located on the western edge of the University of Maryland, College Park campus. The Performing Arts Center is a $90 million, 300,000 gross square foot building with classroom, rehearsal, and performance spaces for the music, theatre and dance departments. 

The civil engineering for this project included surveying, road design for 3,600 feet of road improvements, water and sewer extensions to the project site, and installation of a 2,400 linear foot water loop to enhance the campus distribution system, as well as relocation of existing lines near the proposed parking garage, storm drain design, sediment control and stormwater management basin design, demolition and traffic control plans, wetland permitting, agency processing, civil specifications, and construction phase services.
