Stone Ridge School
Founded in 1947, Stone Ridge School is a college preparatory independent catholic school for girls grades Pre-K through 12. Soltesz has a long standing history with Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, having provided services for several projects at the Bethesda campus, which is located adjacent to the National Naval Medical Center and across from the National Institutes of Health.
Soltesz has designed multiple athletic and recreational facilities, including: The Harkins field for soccer and lacrosse, a multipurpose (softball and soccer) lower field, gymnasium, natatorium, multi-age playground, and Gator Field. The fields are natural turf, irrigated and fenced.
Given the amount of athletic fields, stormwater management concerns were paramount. Soltesz needed to design cost-effective measures across the campus that were in compliance with local regulations.
The Soltesz Solution
To address stormwater management issues, Soltesz consolidated stormwater management for the campus in one location for the site’s impervious runoff. Runoff from the fields is handled naturally through the creative use of bioretention areas and grass swales.
The storm water management for Gator Field was designed using ESDs that meet Montgomery County’s current storm water management standard. The construction and planting design of the ESD facilities were all targeted to enhance the overall site environment. Forest Conservation measures for the school property were also installed to meet Montgomery County code requirements.
