Project Briefings

Federal

Halsey Field House

Halsey Field House is a design-build project for a 55,000 SF, two-story academic facility at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. The project includes a new entry sequence, walkways, exterior envelope, and renovation to the Admissions Department, including the development of museum quality exhibit space in the Quarterdeck Bubble presented during candidate recruitment. LSA is providing civil engineering and surveying services that include site development improvements, sediment and erosion control, paving plans, tree replacement, utility connections, and coordination with MDE.

FBI Building 9

The renovation of Building 9 (B9) at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Academy at Marine Corps Base in Quantico is a task under our LMACC design-build contract with Alphatec, P.C. and John C. Grimberg Co., Inc. The work to be performed provides for the partial renovation of the cafeteria and construction of several additions to the building. The scope also involves design and build of a temporary kitchen server and dining facility while B9 is under renovation. LSA is providing site surveying and civil engineering services, including site grading, utilities design, stormwater management, and sediment control.

State and Local

Nine Ponds Stormwater Management/Flood Control

The Nine Ponds Stormwater Management conceptual design effort was undertaken under the directive of the Town of University Park. The design was part of a study of the WIP compliance of a larger drainage area proposed by the three town coalition of University Park, Riverdale Park, and Hyattsville. The conceptual design ultimately was able to retain a volume of 47 acre-feet in a pond of 5 acres with a drainage area of 260 acres. LSA’s pond design protects downstream public and private properties from flooding and erosion.

St. Mary's Detention Center

St. Mary’s County Government is moving forward with construction! Bids were received in October to construct the 326 bed expansion to the existing Adult Detention Center facility. LSA prepared the site development plan, demolition plan, stormwater management design plans, grading plan, sediment and erosion control plan, on-site water and sewer plans, storm drain design/open channel design, off-site sewer capacity study, and landscape plan. The 108,420 SF expansion will provide much needed safety improvements and infrastructure upgrades to the existing facility and is expected to be fully constructed in 2014.

Hospitality

Capella Georgetown Hotel

The new hotel will emerge from the makeover of an existing five-story, free-standing commercial building on 31st Street NW, next to the C&O Canal. The hotel will feature a canal-side restaurant and lounge, an executive boardroom for guest use, and a rooftop pool, bar, and full-service spa. LSA prepared traffic control and public space permit plans in order to obtain approval from DDOT. Also, LSA obtained approvals from DC Water and DDOE for stormwater management and sediment control, provided supporting documents, and coordinated with PEPCO for new electric service.

Healthcare

Genesis Development Nursing Facility

The Genesis Nursing Facility located in Frederick, Maryland plans to move out of its Toll House Avenue site across from Frederick Memorial Hospital on 7th Street into a new site on Ballenger Center Drive. LSA is providing civil engineering, planning, surveying, and permitting for the new 76,244 SF skilled nursing facility that will provide short-term and long-term care to elderly patients. The scope of services includes site parking and access, site grading, ADA accessibility, storm draining plans, onsite water and sewer, sediment and erosion control, utility layout, and site landscaping and lighting.

Commercial

Salubria Center/Tanger Outlets

The historic Salubria property comprises 44 acres on the east of Oxon Hill Road and west of Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill, Maryland at the National Harbor site. Salubria, zoned M-X-T, with a proposed mix of uses including retail, office, and hospitality, is being developed by The Peterson Companies to include a retail outlet center. Tanger Outlets will be constructed on the site and is expected to house approximately 85 outlet designer and brand name stores in a center measuring up to 350,000 square feet. LSA prepared historic exhibits for approval by the historic preservation committee that were integral to the site approvals. The firm is currently providing civil engineering, landscape, and surveying services for the retail development.
